help with external hard drive?
This morning i dropped my external hard drive on the floor and now it wont register on my or anyone elses computer.
it turns on and everything but the drive doesn’t show up on the computer desktop.
is there any way of fixing this? apparently data recovery is like $300…if anyone knows any places in melbourne where it’s cheaper please let me know asap.
thanks
Sorry but the shock from dropping any hard drive damages the internal fingers (they are very delicate) that scan the disc platters. Data recovery is very expensive because normally the hard drive has to be dismantled and repaired or the platters installed into special equipment in order to recover the data on the platters.
If it doesnt show up at all you might just have a broken connection. I recommend opening up the hard drive enclosure and making sure everything is connected.
If that doesn’t work buy a new external hard drive enclosure, you can get one for under $20 (I got one for $8) just look around and then put the hard drive in the new enclosure.
Chances are the hard drive is fine, you just broke something in the enclosure
